I didn’t always see life that way. I was a millionaire before I was twenty years old, self-made up from poverty, and I was pretty impressed with myself. It was the typical rock-star attitude. The truth, however, is that I was living in darkness, falling deeper into the black pit of myself and my hungers. I’m one of the lucky rockers who lived long enough to learn I was wrong, and that’s a grace in itself.
The third memorable thing: On Dec. 14, 1979, he had a vision that changed his life: “I was in a 12-step spiritual recovery program for about 11 years, and I believed in God. But I said a prayer: ‘God, it would be nice to be closer to you.’ Suddenly, my world opened up. I had a vision of Christ and who he was and what he can do and why he stepped into history.
“It changed my life; I’ve never been the same. Ever since that experience, I’ve never had to doubt my self-worth ever again.

We don’t hear much written of sin in popular culture, unless glorifying its devices. Perhaps consequences of the “enlightenment”.
Dylan understands the journey aspect of life. He knows everyone is in a process, and he travels the world and most recently in concerts sings in Mother of Muses,

Great encouragement from Dylan… Many of the crowd that knock his work and songs of Christ, probably don’t believe in the concept of sin.
Old blues singers certainly touched on the topic of sin, but do any popular musicians sing of it today? For Dylan to write and sing a plea to be free from sin, thus acknowledging sin, is of great value for him and his own redemption.

Helping to stop the Vietnam war was a most noble goal, but the young people lost sight of some fundamental truths in those tempestuous times. There was a free for all attitude that permeated the thinking of some of the youth. Unfortunately, some of the good seed fell on rocky ground or where thorns chocked out the truth.
In Rock Skully’s book, Twenty Years on the Bus With Garcia and The Grateful Dead, Skully tells a story where he, Garcia and Townsend were out together after a show at 4 in the morning in Germany, sometime in the early 1980s.
”Townsend and Garcia both seemed utterly exhausted, beset by problems with their bands, their personal lives and drugs. But worst of all, the high hopes and best intentions of a little more than a decade earlier now seemed to taunt them mercilessly. They’d both believed in rock as a force for change, and the failure of that hope bewildered and confused them”.
Dylan had and has the conviction to sing of Jesus Christ. Maybe he feels it is a calling, an obligation, part of that destiny thing. He apparently had no fear of what others would think.. So few in the music business would sing of Christ. Dylan’s faith in Christ grew, matured, as does every soul looking for truth.

He committed his whole life and all he owned to helping others. He founded orphanages in other cities, a hospital, and a shelter for prostitutes. This grew into a congregation of priests and brothers that was named after the place where they had a house: the Clerks Regular of Somascha. Although they spent time educating other young people, their primary work was always Jerome’s first love — helping orphans.

Dylan’s eulogy for Garcia
There’s no way to measure his greatness or magnitude as a person or as a player. I don’t think any eulogizing will do him justice. He was that great, much more than a superb musician, with an uncanny ear and dexterity. He’s the very spirit personified of whatever is Muddy River country at its core and screams up into the spheres. He really had no equal. To me he wasn’t only a musician and friend, he was more like a big brother who taught and showed me more than he’ll ever know. There’s a lot of spaces and advances between The Carter Family, Buddy Holly and, say, Ornette Coleman, a lot of universes, but he filled them all without being a member of any school. His playing was moody, awesome, sophisticated, hypnotic and subtle. There’s no way to convey the loss. It just digs down really deep…BOB DYLAN
