Saints have said, Mary’s words are profound and can provide an entire lifetime of meditation. Her words, “Do whatever He tells you,” do not only apply to the servants at the feast, but to every person throughout history.

Take back what the devil stole and tacitly encourage others to desire and work on being free from sin. In the Book of James it says, confess your sins to one another, James 5:16. The Roman Catholic Church’s Sacrament of Penance/Confession offers a great supernatural and sacramental grace. It is a great weapon. Some writers will unpack Dylan’s intent with this line regarding sin… Many will overlook it. Our time here is limited, and maybe he is trying to impart some advice, and this particular advice should impact many, many souls for the better.

In the summer of 1984, I was up front (close) at a Garcia show in upstate NY, in earshot of the sound created from his two Twin Reverb heads, Macintosh power amp, sounding through JBL speakers and monitors and the house front speakers. Remarkable tone up front.
I glanced over to where John Kahn, the bassist was standing, and noticed a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mother on his speaker cabinet or amp head. Weird. Maybe the statue was a holdover from Garcia’s Legion of Mary/ https://www.legionofmary.ie/ days, or maybe having it there was a joke.
Maybe it was a genuine display of something of faith from Kahn or someone in the crew, or again, maybe just a joke.
Nevertheless, I saw that little statue, and not long after, I visited a blessed aunt of mine who was devoted to Jesus Christ and the Sacred Heart. She also had a deep love and connection with and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mother and all things approved by the Church. It was during a talk of the Church approved apparitions like Fatima, Portugal in 1917, Guadalupe Mexico, in 1531, Our Lady of Good Success in 1594, Quito, Ecuador, Akita, Japan apparitions from 1973 -1979 and Kiebho, Rawanda, 1981 to 1989, when my aunt informed me that there were reports of the Virgin Mother appearing in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia. I asked, “Now, 1984?!”
“One must meditate on the Passion of Jesus, and on the deep sorrows of His Mother. One must recite the Rosary every day, and also the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, to obtain the favour of repentance.” From Our Lady of Kibeho
The “favour of repentance” (or “favor of repentance”) refers to the grace or divine gift of being able to truly repent—experiencing genuine sorrow for sin, contrition, and the strength to turn away from it toward God.
Soon after learning that, I arranged a flight to London and a train trip to communist Yugoslavia in early 1985.
The Church is cautious and prudent when investigating new unapproved Marian apparitions. I was told in different ways and the scripture informs us that the diabolical one is an accuser, a liar, a thief, a murderer and a destroyer. He can present 1000 truths, for one grand lie, and some bad operatives down here, could implement a project blue beam event in hopes of duping the masses. Medjugorje has received a nihil obstat – The Nihil Obstat explicitly does not declare that the apparitions (even the first ones) are supernatural. The official Note states that this approval:
- Does not imply a judgment on the supernatural character of the alleged apparitions or messages.
- Always refers to them as “alleged” messages and apparitions.
- Focuses on the pastoral and spiritual benefits rather than authenticating the visions. usccb.org
This is consistent with how the Church has handled Medjugorje: it encourages the good that comes from the site, but has not (and as of 2026 still has not) officially approved any of the reported apparitions as authentic supernatural events.

Some Protestants have little regard for the Virgin Mother, and relegate her to a place of virtual insignificance. God allowed two departed souls, Moses and Elijah to return to earth to be with Jesus Christ. See Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9. God can have the Mother of the Redeemer return to earth to be with us. Also, see Revelations Chapter 12 verse 1—
For our sake, Mary is the daughter of the Father, the spouse of the Holy Spirit and the Mother of our Redeemer, Brother and Lord, Jesus Christ. It is remarkable how virtually the entire sect of Protestantism and its theology have no openness to the possibility that God would send the mother of Jesus Christ to warn and guide humanity. The chastisement may come from the hands and actions of man. As Paul wrote, “God will abandon us to our own reprobate minds”. Roman 1:28. God loves us much and he gives us freedom. Pope Benedict the XVI said in New York’s Yankee Stadium in 2008, during a visit to America, “move forward with firm resolve to use wisely the blessings of freedom in order to build a future of hope for coming generations”. Brilliant. We must use “our freedom” wisely. For some, liberty has turned into license.
Catholic and Orthodox tradition teaches that Mary remained a Virgin. When the word brothers and sisters are mentioned in scripture, that usage, Catholic dogma references cousins. The Orthodox church teaches that Joseph, had children from a first marriage with a wife who was deceased. From Grok, “This distinction emerged prominently after the East-West Schism of 1054, though both views predate it and reject the Protestant literal interpretation of full siblings.”
Saint Jerome tries to prove that the sisters and brethren spoken of, were either children of Joseph by a former marriage, or first cousins, children of the sister of the Virgin.
Either way, I ask, if Mary had other children, brothers and or sisters of Christ, why doesn’t scripture detail their presence during the crucifixion? Why did Jesus, from the cross, tell John, “behold your Mother, and likewise to his mother He said, “behold your son”. John 19:26. Seems to me, if Jesus Christ did have brothers and sisters, they would have been with their mother, at the crucifixion and would have also taken care of her after the ascension of her Son.
Tradition informs us that Saint John took care of Mary after the death, resurrection and ascension of Christ. John was the only apostle not killed/martyred.
Mary’s last words quoted in the Bible are, DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU.

All that said, there was a connection for me seeing the statue of the Virgin Mother Mary on John Kahn’s amp at a Jerry Garcia show and my travel to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia in 1985.
If you are not familiar with the story of Medjugorje, you might want to look into it. An interesting point is reported, that the Virgin Mary told the children, that as an act of grace and a warning to the people of the world, God will leave a physical sign on the hill of the site of her first apparition. The sign will be able to be photographed and seen but will not be able to be destroyed.
Below is a photo I took with a Nikon Nikkormat, in Medjugorje, Bosnia, Herzegovina in March of 1985 of Apparition Hill, from Cross Mountain, the area where the “visible sign” will appear. The black obelisk/glitch with lighter line/beam leading into it from above, and from bottom toward me, in center of photo may portend something, or its just a photo glitch, the only glitch out of 10 or so rolls of film. There are other things represented in this photo, when the ship comes in.
Illumination of Conscience
Billions of people are wounded, fractured, mislead, to varying degrees and are all running around, most following the natural law, trying to survive and thrive and doing the best they can. Unfortunately though, with the stain of Adam running through our veins, to fully awaken mankind, it will take a theophany, perhaps an illumination of conscience of every living person in the world, at the same time, one last warning to help us to choose God, Jesus Christ, love, obedience, truth and peace. This idea has come to us via various mystics. It gets a bit complicated and dicey, when some of the approximate, two billion Muslims are expecting the return of a “Madhi”, when there is a worldwide conflagration. Further, there are some Christian Zionists who want to rebuild a temple, where a mosque stands currently.

I asked a Carmelite Nun, in the 2000s, how will God get through to everyone, to convert them, to return them to the truth. In particular I asked how will approximately 2 billion Muslims be moved to turn to Jesus Christ? Her response was simple. She said in the same way 100s of thousands if not millions of indigenous peoples, Mayans, Aztec, Inca and other, some of whom were sacrificing humans on pyramids on a regular basis, were converted to Jesus Christ in a rapid and short time by the appearance of the Virgin of Guadalupe, so too, God will step in and the Muslims, and people of all faiths will turn to Christ. Will all? Christians too, will have a deeper movement to and conversion to Jesus Christ, love and truth. Muslims are having dreams with Jesus Christ appearing to them and they are converting.
Garcia appreciated science and the intellect. Too bad I didn’t think to encourage him to look into the cloak made of cactus fiber, the tilma of Juan Diego. It should have survived only a couple decades. It has survived over five centuries!
